FIFA president Infantino inaugurates FIFA museum

New FIFA president Gianni Infantino has inaugurated the new FIFA museum in Zurich on Sunday, February 28, describing it as a “beautiful idea” of his controversial predecessor Sepp Blatter.

“This is a beautiful museum that reflects the universality of football. It’s a beautiful idea of Sepp Blatter, a museum which he initiated its establishment,” said Infantino who was elected on Friday to the presidency of Fifa succeeding Blatter who has been suspended for 6 years and forced to resign because of a major corruption scandal. The 140 million Swiss francs (EUR 128 million) museum of the International Football Federation located in the center of Zurich aims to attract 250,000 visitors per year.

It was opened in the presence of Markus Kattner, Acting General Secretary of FIFA and the former Swiss international Stephane Chapuisat.

Gianni Infantino, a native of Valais as Blatter was elected Friday to the presidency of FIFA, beating three other candidates: Bahraini Sheikh Salman, Jordan’s Prince Ali and the French Jerome Champagne.
